In addition to the sounds of the full sextet, Braidstream performs regularly as a smaller ensemble combinations and reconfigures to become a Duo and as Nuance, a jazz ensemble.
Braidstream Trio/Quartet
Braidstream offers the option of performing as a Trio with Rita Hayes on flute/hammered dulcimer, Jeff Johnson on guitar and the choice of adding a musician with cello or harp. The Quartet will include all instruments.
Braidstream Duo
The Braidstream Duo consists of the two
founding members of Braidstream, Rita Hayes and Jeff Johnson, who have
performed together since 1983. The Duo is an excellent choice of chamber
music when budget restrictions prevent hiring the larger Braidstream
ensemble. Performance venues include concerts, educational residencies,
weddings and receptions, festivals, various events at the Biltmore
Estate, gala celebrations and corporate events. Braidstream Duo's
diverse repertoire includes classical, jazz, Celtic and World Music
genres.
Jazz with Rita Hayes & Nuance
Nuance is an exciting
three to five-piece jazz ensemble featuring the warm vocals stylings and hot licks
of Rita Hayes's flute. Nuance includes piano, bass/guitar and
percussion. Rita Hayes explores a different range of material than with
the more classically and traditionally focused Braidstream. She performs
enduring jazz standards and adds to those her own arrangements from the
great American songbook. In the context of Nuance, Hayes is free to add
an improvisational dimension to her stellar flute playing and lyric
vocals that swing, cook, surprise and always delight.
